Why I Started TMC
I grew up in a family that owned a manufacturing company started by my grandfather. I have watched what happens when succession gets left until it's unavoidable — the scramble, the strain on relationships, the options that quietly disappear the longer the hard conversations are put off. I lived some of that myself, as a third-generation leader in my own family's business.
I'm not a lawyer, a financial advisor, or an operations consultant, and I don't pretend to be. What I bring is having sat where you're sitting. I did not do the generational succession planning necessary to sustain the family jewel. I do not want other manufacturing families to discover those lessons as painfully and as late as I did.
“I've lived it. Not as someone who mastered succession and now teaches others how to do it — almost the opposite. I had the privilege of leading my family's manufacturing company as a third-generation owner and leader. I did many things right. But I failed to understand and undertake the generational succession planning necessary to pass that family jewel to another generation, and I experienced the consequences — to the company, the family, and myself.”

What Makes Davis Different
Family business succession planning attracts a wide range of professionals. Davis is something more specific — and more useful.
His edge isn't that he replaces a family's lawyers, accountants, financial advisors, or operating consultants — it's that his lived experience helps a family leader see what may be coming before it arrives, ask questions that might otherwise go unasked, and begin planning early enough to preserve choices.
Davis is
- A third-generation family manufacturing leader who has lived succession —and the lack of it—himself
- An advisor who understands the human dynamics of a family — not just the org chart
- The author of the field guide on generational succession for family manufacturers
- A trusted partner who stays with you through the process, not through a single project
Davis is not
- A lawyer drafting your succession documents
- A financial advisor structuring your estate plan
- An operations consultant with a proprietary framework
- An academic who studies family businesses from the outside
A Mission Rooted in American Manufacturing
Family-owned manufacturing companies are not just businesses. They are communities. They are careers. They are the reason entire towns have a tax base, a school, a little league field. When a family company fails to survive its own succession, the loss goes well beyond the family balance sheet.
Davis's mission — the reason The Manufacturers' Collective exists — is to make sure that family-owned American manufacturing companies outlive their founders. To make sure the work of one generation becomes the inheritance of the next, not a cautionary tale about what could have been.
He is particularly focused on the men and women who have dedicated their lives to making America stronger and the American people more prosperous. The ones who stayed. The ones who built something real with their hands. They deserve an advisor who understands what they've built — and what it would mean to lose it.
“I want to be known as an authority on continuity in family businesses. Not on breaking them up, not on selling them — on keeping them alive and growing, generation after generation.”

The Book
Sustaining a Family Jewel
Planning For and Driving Generational Succession in Family-Owned American Manufacturing Companies
Davis wrote Sustaining a Family Jewelbecause the book he needed when navigating his own succession didn't exist. It is a practitioner's field guide — grounded in lived experience, not theory — for family manufacturing leaders ready to lead a successful generational handover.
If you are wondering where to start, the book is the place.
